Bowers & Wilkins Puts Lightning into Zeppelin Air and Z2 Wireless Music Systems

Bowers & Wilkins has been cranking out some pretty killer tabletop music systems over the past few years.

In 2009, we were introduced to the Zeppelin, which was very well received by critics and consumers. Three years later, the company added Apple AirPlay into a more compact device called the Zeppelin Air. Now, they want to give even more audio fans what they want -- at least audio fans with the iPhone 5.

Bowers & Wilkins just announced two brand new wireless speaker docks, both of which have AirPlay wireless streaming and the new Lightning connector for use with the iPhone 5. The new products are the Z2 and an updated version of the Zeppelin Air.

Available in black or white, the Z2 is compact enough to fit almost anywhere. It can dock all Lightning-enabled iOS devices or you can opt to stream content directly to the device from any networked iOS device, as well as a Mac or PC running iTunes. Other features include a curvy metal grille and the company's own Flowport technology.

Bowers & Wilkins first started selling the Zeppelin Air early last year.

Apple fans should be pretty familiar with the Zeppelin Air, considering how B&W says it's the number-one selling AirPlay system. Given the popularity, the company isn't planning to tweak much. The model is basically the same device that was introduced last year, but with the new Lightning connector.

Both units also work with the free Bowers & Wilkins setup app, which is available now at the iTunes app store.

Bowers & Wilkins will start selling the black Z2 in April, with the white version coming in June. Both versions will be priced at $399.99 each. The Lightning-enabled Zeppelin Air will be sandwiched in between the two, with the updated version coming in May for $599.99.

The new Z2 features a curvy metal grille and the company's own Flowport technology.
