Report: Maserati planning compact mid-engined roadster, turns down LaFerrari-based hypercar

Maserati has been getting a lot of attention as of recent since the small sports and luxury automaker has been readying what seems to be a barrage of new models following parent company Fiat’s aggressive plans of expansion. That said, AutoExpress of the UK reports that Maserati has a new rumored compact mid-engined sports car in the works and is said to be hitting the market by 2016.

“We don’t want to lose the identity of sportiness for Maserati. There will be the new Gran Cabrio and GranTurismo in 2015 and the year after that we are thinking of a new smaller sports car.” Maserati of Europe’s General Manager, Giulio Pastore, told AutoExpressUK.

Considering that Maserati is owned by Fiat, who also owns Alfa Romeo, who just released the new 4C convertible, you could probably already see why Maserati is looking to concoct a compact mid-engined roadster of their own. However, to mystify this rumor, Pastore supposedly didn’t specifically say that it will be based on the Alfa 4C because “it would require us [Maserati] to create a more sporty,[and] all-new body.”

But in this day and age of modular platforms that are shared amongst the corporate stable, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched of a hunch. Furthermore, the potential compact mid-engined Maserati to be would only be a two-seater.

In the same discussion, Pastore also revealed that Maserati turned down its plans to produce a spin-off model based on the all-new Ferrari LaFerrari hypercar just like they did in the past with the Ferrari Enzo-based MC12.

Additionally, Pastore emphasized the success of the Quattroporte and the Ghibli are crucial to the greenlight for the compact roadster. That said, only time stands between us and the next update.

Does Amazon's New FireTV Stick 4K Do It All

HDR, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos... Yup!
It seems like every year a new format comes along to make all our "old" gear obsolete. For audio video afficionados, those latest formats include Dolby Atmos immersive sound, and three different flavors of High Dynamic Range for enhanced picture quality. The three HDR flavors currently on the market include HDR 10 (the most common), HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ promise better picture quality than standard HDR 10 by using something called "dynamic meta data." Basically they're able to shift around the required storage bits on a scene-by-scene basis to get the best dynamic range out of movies and TV shows that are encoded in the format.

The 2019 BMW M5 high-performance sedan gives us all of the feels.
The digital wizardry from the last generation is still there, but this year’s version integrates the human into the experience. It’s a better feeling super sedan on a super budget. For 2019, BMW added an M5 Competition version that bumps power output to 617 horsepower (up from 600 hp in the M5), bigger wheels and a handful of small performance tweaks. The M5 Competition starts at a rich $110,000, give or take, up from the M5’s asking price of more than $103,000.

Oppo RX17 Pro Review: Hands-on

We had time with Oppo’s new RX17 Pro. It may be blue and purple but how different is it to the similar OnePlus 6T and is it worth your time?
Should I Buy The Oppo RX17 Pro?
Oppo has made a solid mid-range phone in the RX17 Pro. Build quality is premium, fast charging is industry-best fast and the display is of high quality. But the price is high at 599€ considering the OnePlus 6T with a better processor starts at £499/€529. And while functioning as it’s supposed to, ColorOS is still unrefined for the western market with far too many changes to Android to recommend over competitors.
