2013 Cadillac ATS, XTS, 2014 Chevy Impala Recalled

General Motors is recalling certain 2013 Cadillac ATS and XTS luxury sedans and certain 2014 Chevrolet Impala sedans for a problem with flickering brake lights.

A notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website puts the number of vehicles affected by the safety recall at 1,627.

Documentation from General Motors (PDF) further breaks down the recall population by year, make, model, number affected, and build dates as follows:

2013 Cadillac ATS – 531 vehicles, built from April 26, 2013 through May 13, 20132013 Cadillac Coach – 15 vehicles, built from April 30, 2013 through June 9, 20132013 Cadillac Limo – 2 vehicles, built on May 2, 20132013 Cadillac XTS – 277 vehicles, built from April 30, 2013 through May 9, 20132014 Chevrolet Impala – 802 vehicles, built from April 23, 2013 through May 9, 2013

The problem

The NHTSA bulletin says that the brake lights in affected vehicles may intermittently flash without the brakes being applied and that the cruise control could disengage. If this should happen when the vehicle is not slowing, a following driver “may not adjust vehicle speed when the vehicle is in fact braking, and the brake lamps are illuminating as intended, increasing the risk of a crash.”

According to General Motors, the issue was discovered May 7, 2013 on a 2013 Cadillac ATS at the assembly plant. The root cause is within the body control module (BCM) that controls the stop lamps. The BCM is manufactured in Mexico.

General Motors said that it has not received any customer complaints on this issue as of May 23, 2013.

What GM will do

General Motors will notify owners of affected vehicles and dealers will replace the body control module at no charge. The General Motors safety recall campaign, identified as No. 13158, is expected to begin on June 7, 2013.

In the meantime, owners of 2013 Cadillac ATS and XTS luxury sedans and 2014 Chevrolet Impala sedans with any questions or concerns may contact Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339 and Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438.

Alternatively, owners of vehicles involved in the campaign may contact NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to http://www.safercar.gov.  Reference the NHTSA campaign ID No. 13V220000.

Should I Buy The Amazon Echo Plus (2nd-gen)?
The new Echo Plus offers a radical redesign compared to the original, ditching the plastic body for a fabric mesh housing that helps the speaker blend into the home environment. Xiaomi Mi Band 1S Pulse Best-Value Activity Tracker Review

You will not find an activity tracker that offers better value than Xiaomi's Mi Band Pulse. We put the upgraded Mi Band to the test in our Xiaomi Mi Band 1S review.
Should I Buy The Xiaomi Mi Band 1S Pulse?
With a tougher band addressing our issues with the original, and a new heart-rate sensor bringing it into line with rival activity trackers, you quite simply won't find a better-value fitness band than the Xiaomi Mi Band 1S Pulse. It still falls down on social interaction, apps and its use of a proprietary charging cable, but given the price we can accept these shortcomings.

Does Amazon's New FireTV Stick 4K Do It All

HDR, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos... Yup!
It seems like every year a new format comes along to make all our "old" gear obsolete. For audio video afficionados, those latest formats include Dolby Atmos immersive sound, and three different flavors of High Dynamic Range for enhanced picture quality. The three HDR flavors currently on the market include HDR 10 (the most common), HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ promise better picture quality than standard HDR 10 by using something called "dynamic meta data." Basically they're able to shift around the required storage bits on a scene-by-scene basis to get the best dynamic range out of movies and TV shows that are encoded in the format.
