GM Remote Link

General Motors has announced today that it will be moving a few optional extras over to the standard features list. When a customer takes delivery of a 2014 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, or GMC vehicle, he or she will be able to sign up for a paid or trial version of the OnStar system.

That system features the ability to connect to the owners smartphone by way of the RemoteLink Mobile App, and it includes a plethora of features that keep folks connected to their cars.
Regardless of whether the new car owner opts to pay for the OnStar subscription, the RemoteLink Mobile App will remain usable and free for five years. This means that customers will have access to a variety of great features that used to require the OnStar subscription.

GM owners will be able to remotely start their vehicles, lock and unlock the vehicle doors, and activate the lights all from their smartphone. Additional features of the app include the ability to monitor items such as oil and fuel levels, one-touch access to an OnStar Advisor, and the ability to send directions from the phone to the car, which are all available for the length of the OnStar trial or subscription period.

General Motors has stated that its cars are becoming more connected machines, and it's wise to offer up these premium services as no-cost enticing extras. Per GM, their customers love the remote start feature and it's the most popular item on the mobile app.
