Video: Apple reveals iOS for the Car, slew of automakers already confirmed for integration

Earlier this week, Apple held their annual 2013 Worldwide Developer’s Conference. Now, you’re probably wondering, this isn’t a freakin’ electronics blog. Well, not quite, but this is fairly automotive related, as Apple has officially announced that they’ll be integrating iOS in a variety of automobiles from around the world.

Apple has really been scoring high lately with the evolution of Siri, which has opened a vast variety of doors of opportunity, mainly in the push to make voice-activation the solution to curtailing distracted driving. According to Apple’s own statistics and data, 95% of new vehicles sold today already are capable of working with iOS-based devices.

But the difference with “iOS in the Car” is that iOS is actually equipped to the car itself so that you can have all of your iDevice functions available as soon as you turn the key.

Apple briefly confirmed that Chevrolet, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Hyundai, Jaguar, Opel, Acura, Volvo, Nissan and Ferrari are all on the list as the first cars to receive iOS integration via the presentation’s flash screen. Though more are likely to be added to that list.

Either way, this should prove to be interesting for the automobile industry. Apple fanbois will rejoice, while Android lovers will most likely revolt.

Check out the brief “iOS in the Car” portion of Apple’s WWDC after the jump.
