Report: Hyundai investigating 50,000 2013 Santa Fe crossovers over reports of loss of vehicle control

Reuters reports that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has initiated an investigation into some 50,000 new Hyundai Santa Fes over complaints about loss of vehicle control due to a failing right-front axle shaft.

Two complaints have been issued for two 2013 model SUVs already, with the complaints citing loss of control with just less than 5,000 miles on the odometer.

Hyundai has responded and stated that they’re fully cooperating with the NHTSA’s request to look into the issue.

“It is too early in the process to draw any conclusions and no safety-related defect has been identified, but Hyundai is cooperating fully to respond to NHTSA’s request,” Hyundai spokesman Miles Johnson told Reuters in an email. “Hyundai will, of course, take any actions necessary to ensure the safety of our customers if the information gathered during the investigation indicates that action is appropriate.”

Stay tuned to hear more updates on this investigation.
