Report: Jaguar’s SUV crossover is very on the way, to go on sale by 2015

AutoExpressUK reports on receiving some new scoop on the much-rumored Jaguar SUV crossover to combat the latest and greatest from Germany and Japan. Talks about an SUV for the brand has been a longstanding discussion—nearly 10 years—and it has yet to truly turn into a reality.

But in the latest report, Jaguar is apparently very on track to have the car go on sale by 2015. The SUV crossover itself is also described to be more similar to the Audi A6 allroad in terms of its form, rather than more like its Jaguar’s sister company’s offerings from Land Rover. In essence, AutoExpressUK suggests that it will essentially be a higher riding crossover between the XF and the XJ.

The platform will be based off of Jaguar’s incoming and much-anticipated BMW 3-Series fighter and will be compete against the likes of the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5. This will allow Jaguar to keep the weight down while also streamlining manufacturing costs.

Power may be provided by a series of force-fed four-bangers with the usual mixture of gasoline and diesel variants. They’ll all be mated to ZF’s latest eight-speed automatic as standard. A range-toppping version with Jaguar’s 3.0L supercharged V6 is also a distinct possibility, with a chance of a hybrid setup as well.

If you’re also interested in checking out AutoExpressUK’s idea of what the crossover could look like, head on over to their page to snag a glimpse.
