Detective Pikachu Movie Review

Is Detective Pikachu the very best, like no film ever was? We review the first ever live action Pokémon movie
Should I Buy the Detective Pikachu?
Detective Pikachu could have been a disaster, but instead it's really a bit of a delight. A game cast, robust world-building, and a sharp script combine to produce a film that should appeal equally to new fans and nostalgia-driven millennials.
It's a low bar to clear, but this is the best videogame movie yet - by some way.

Best Honor Phones Of 2018

Best Honor Phones Of 2018
Honor is making a great name for itself in the global smartphone market. Owned by Huawei, it’s a separate brand that often takes the exact same specs of a Huawei phone, repackages it, and sells it cheaper.

Turns out, that’s a great thing for you the consumer.

We tend to ignore Honor’s youth-focussed branding, as these often affordable smartphones are great for everyone (particularly if you like the colour blue, though other colours are available).

They often have dual cameras, attractive designs and AI software features that Huawei phones have for often hundred of pounds or dollars more.

Honor smartphones range from the premium to the extremely affordable - but debatably the former can stray into the latter. This is what makes the large range slightly confusing sometimes.

Here is our rundown of our favourite Honor phones currently on sale to help you pick which is best for you.

The Best Honor Phones Of 2018

1. Honor 10
Even though battery life is a little underwhelming, it’s a minor quibble with what is an exceptionally good phone for the price. The display, cameras and build quality are verging on those of a phone twice the price and the performance is the best we’ve seen on an Honor phone.

The software is the best EMUI has ever offered, and the notch is not a big deal when all is said and done. The 128GB storage as standard is also a major plus, and dual SIM is also welcome. Add to that a headphone jack, and the Honor 10 could well be the best featured mid-range phone ever – it’s certainly the best you can buy in 2018.

Read our Honor 10 review.

2. Honor View 10
The Honor View 10 is another flagship device from a company that promises a lot with high specs and low prices. The phone is much more similar in look and feel to the Honor 8 Pro than the recent Honor 9, and loses the attractive glass back in favour of AI software perks and Android Oreo.

At £449 you could opt for the same-price OnePlus 5T which has more attractive software design, but it could turn out that the Honor View 10 is an intelligent choice with Android Oreo out the box thanks to promising, if unrefined, AI features and strong dual cameras.

3. Honor 9 Lite
The Honor 9 Lite might not have all the mod cons but it's one of the cheapest phones around to offer an 18:9 screen with a bezel-free design. It's an attractive phone and general specs are good, including no less than four cameras. It doesn't have flawless performance but there's little to complain about at under £200 making it the best budget phone around.

4. Honor 9
The Honor 9 is an undeniably impressive phone and although the Honor 10 is out, you can still buy it even cheaper direct from Honor

In performance terms, it's nipping at the heels of the year's top flagships, and only lacking flashy features like waterproofing or a bezel-less screen. It looks great, it runs fast, and it costs less than £300 now.

5. Honor 7X
  • RRP: $199.99
Honor does pretty much everything right with the 7X. It looks like a much more expensive phone than it is, has a headphone jack and offers a choice of dual-SIM or expandable memory.

The 18:9 screen is great to use, and most apps work ok when forced to fill it. Battery life is good and cameras are acceptable, but not excellent.

The bottom line is that Honor has put together a decent phone that gives you an 18:9 screen which looks like a flagship for far less than flagship prices.

6. Honor 8 Pro
  • RRP: £474.99
The Honor 8 Pro is a solid device. It represents the brand moving even closer in look and price to big bro Huawei, but it is a decent option.

Without contract options in the UK at this time, you’ll have to plump for SIM free, and at just under £500 you might be tempted to look at the Honor View 10 instead which has better specs and Android Oreo.

7. Honor 6X
The Honor 6X manages to be a budget phone but not remotely feel like one. This is high praise, and while it could never hold a candle to the performance of phones three times the price, that’s not the point – the Android experience you get is still nigh-on top drawer.

As long as you can get on with Huawei’s still-not-there EMUI skin, the Honor 6X is one of the best, most affordable mid-range Android handsets going – and it’s easy to pick one up in the UK.

8. Honor 8
  • RRP: $399
The Honor 8 is a fantastic smartphone, despite coming out in 2016. You get a fantastic dual-camera, a sleek and stylish design, a faster fingerprint sensor and a beautiful display, which combined make the Honor 8 a worthy phone in the Honor range.

Should I buy the Nokia 7.1?
The Nokia 7.1 is a familiar mid-range phone for the end of 2018: a notch, big bottom chin and dual cameras. But these cameras are pretty good, and the display is lovely. Its build quality is above average though, and with Android One on board and decent performance it’s an excellent mid-range phone with the advantage of three years of guaranteed security updates.
