Air Fryer French Fries

The Air Fryer makes fresh French Fries deliciously crunchy using very little oil. No need for soaking the potatoes! I’m sharing all the tools, tips and tricks to cook up these Air Fryer French Fries.

Prep Time - 15 mins
Cook Time - 10 mins
Total Time - 25 mins

Course: Side Dish
Cuisine: American
Keyword: french fries
Servings: 4 servings
Author: Jennifer

  • 5-6 russet potatoes
  • salt & pepper or other seasonings to taste
  • olive oil

  1. Preheat Air Fryer to 400 degrees F.
  2. Peel potatoes and cut into evenly sized fries. Dry potatoes very well! Coat with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt.
  3. In Batches, place fries in a single layer in the Air Fryer basket. Cook for 8 minutes. Shake basket to redistribute fries then cook another 5 minutes. Shake fries to redistribute again. Check for doneness. Cook another 3-5 minutes if needed.

Key to Success #1 – Cut Your Potatoes Evenly
One of the single most important things you can do to ensure that your homestyle Air Fryer French Fries cook evenly is to cut them evenly.

I used a mandolin slicer to cut my fries into perfectly even widths and this helped so much to ensure that they would cook evenly. I have this exact adjustable mandolin slicer and vegetable julienner and it has been wonderful. I’m able to slice and cut the potatoes at the same time with only one pass over the blades.
The picture above is my raw potatoes that had been cut into French Fries using the mandolin slicer. They are so nice and pretty and even.

I chose to peel my potatoes before cutting them because that’s what my family prefers, but you can leave the skin on if you’d like.

Key to Success #2 – Dry Your Potatoes Well
In order for the French Fry potatoes to crisp up in the Air Fryer, they need to be very dry to start. Very dry. After I peel the potatoes, I wrap them in a clean kitchen towel and towel them dry.

Then after I slice them using the mandolin slicer, I use a couple paper towels to mop up any remaining moisture. This ensures that the potatoes are as dry as possible.

Key to Success #3 – Shake The Basket Often
While cooking your Air Fryer French Fries, be sure to shake the Air Fryer Basket often so that you can make sure all the French Fries are cooked evenly.

If you want to be gentler, you can use a spatula to flip your fries. These fries can handle a little shaking though. You can do whichever way is easier for you.

The cook times listed in this recipe are what worked for my Air Fryer, but yours may be slightly different. I have a Cozyna XL 5.8 QT Air Fryer. Here is the link for a newer version of the Cozyna XL Air Fryer that has some digital features.

These French Fries are great when served with Air Fryer Hamburgers or even Air Fryer Chicken Legs.

Once Upon a Hollywood Movie Review

Say Goodbye to "Hollywood"

Moments of Quentin Tarantino's new movie "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" suggest a calmer and more reflective side of the filmmaker. Tarantino is known for his unrelenting violence and rapid-fire dialogue exchanges, but early scenes in his latest movie show him taking a bit of a breath. It's a nice touch, but Tarantino cannot help giving into his worst indulgences as a director; the movie ultimately succumbs to those, and it erases all hints of goodwill that may have been built up earlier in the film.

Spinach, Asian Pear & Chicken Salad

Fragrant, crunchy Asian pears add a refreshing melon-like flavor to the healthy chicken salad recipe. Look for the large, brown, apple-shaped fruit in well-stocked supermarkets near other specialty fruit.

Synology DS419slim Review

The DS419slim fills a unique niche by being a NAS drive that exclusively accepts only 2.5in drives. A limitation that is perhaps more of a curse than a blessing. Find out why in our review.
Should I Buy The Synology DiskStation DS419slim?
On paper a NAS drive that uses 2.5in drives might seem interesting until you realise the limited sizes available for NAS use, and the cost of owning them.
Unless you really need a compact NAS drive, another model is likely to be a better choice.
