Hawaiian Layered Jello

Hawaiian Layered Jello is a classic Hawaiian dessert that is surprisingly tasty. It’s full of tangy flavor and not overly sweet. It’ll be a huge hit at your next Hawaiian Luau party!

  • 8 packets Knox plain gelatin
  • 2 cans (14 oz each) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 large box (6 oz) Berry Blue Jello gelatin
  • 1 large box (6 oz) Lime Jello gelatin
  • 1 large box (6 oz) Lemon Jello gelatin
  • 1 large box (6 oz) Orange Jello gelatin
  • 1 large box (6 oz) Strawberry Jello gelatin
  • Pre-chill 9X13 baking dish in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Do not grease pan.
  • In 4-cup glass measuring cup, pour 1 1/2 cups boiling water. Add three packets of Knox gelatin, whisking constantly until gelatin is dissolved. Add in both cans of sweetened condensed milk, stirring to combine. Add more water if needed to reach 4 cups of the milk mixture.
  • In 2-cup glass measuring cup, pour 1 1/2 cups boiling water. Add in one packet of Knox gelatin, whisking constantly until gelatin is completely dissolved. Pour in 1 large package of Berry Blue Jello gelatin, whisking until completely dissolved. Let cool then pour into chilled baking dish before returning to refrigerator for 20 minutes or until layer is set.
  • Using a clean and dry measuring cup, measure out 1 cup of the milk mixture then pour over the Jello layer. Return dish to refrigerator for 20 minutes or until layer is set.
  • Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each additional Jello flavor.
  • Your layers will go in this order:
1) Blue Jello
2) milk mixture
3) Lime Jello
4) milk mixture
5) Lemon Jello
6) milk mixture
7) Orange Jello
8) milk mixture
9) Strawberry Jello
Be sure to wash and dry the measuring cups after each layer.
** If milk mixture starts to thicken, microwave for 10-15 seconds until it is liquid but not hot then stir well.
  • Refrigerate Hawaiian Layered Jello for at least 1 hour before cutting.
Hawaiian Layered Jello is the perfect treat for your Hawaiian Luau or birthday party. We made this for Emily’s 14th birthday party this week and it was a big hit! Not only was it cute, but it was also super tasty.
Key to Success #1 – Do Not Grease the Pan
You’ll want to put together this dessert in a 9X13-inch glass baking dish. Some of my favorite baking dishes are from Pyrex. They are well made and hold up well to lots of baking. I like ones with straight sides and squared bottom.

You do not need to grease the baking dish when making Hawaiian Layered Jello. In fact, if you grease the pan it could cause your layers to be muddled. The Jello will not stick to the pan.

Key to Success #2 – Measure Milk Mixture Carefully
The white layers of Jello are made from a mixture of plain gelatin, water, and sweetened condensed milk. When you mix up the milk mixture, you’ll end up with 4 cups of the mixture.

You’ll have 4 white layers so be sure to measure out exactly 1 cup of milk mixture for each layer. This will ensure that your white layers are even when your dessert is completed.

If your milk mixture starts to gel or thicken while you’re putting your Hawaiian Layered Jello together, just pop the milk mixture into the microwave and heat it for 20-30 seconds until it is slightly warmed. Be sure to stir it well to make sure it’s completely thinned out.

Key to Success #3 – Play the Waiting Game
When you mix up each Jello layer, be sure you let it cool a bit before you pour it into the baking dish. You don’t want it to melt the layer beneath it. It doesn’t have to be completely cooled, but you want it to be only warm to the touch and not hot.

After you pour each layer of Jello or milk mixture into the pan, be sure to put the pan back into the refrigerator to let it set. Letting each layer set before adding more will ensure that your layers don’t mix and get muddled. It’ll keep your colors nice and bright.

I let my layers refrigerate for about 20 minutes before adding a new layer. That seemed to be plenty of time for the newest layer to firm up.

Get Creative
You can get creative with your Jello colors or the order of your Jello layers. It would be super cute to do a Red White and Blue Layered Jello. You’re only limited by the Jello colors that you can find.

If you try other color/flavor combinations, let us know in the comments!

Once Upon a Hollywood Movie Review

Say Goodbye to "Hollywood"

Moments of Quentin Tarantino's new movie "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" suggest a calmer and more reflective side of the filmmaker. Tarantino is known for his unrelenting violence and rapid-fire dialogue exchanges, but early scenes in his latest movie show him taking a bit of a breath. It's a nice touch, but Tarantino cannot help giving into his worst indulgences as a director; the movie ultimately succumbs to those, and it erases all hints of goodwill that may have been built up earlier in the film.

Mase - Harlem World Music Album Reviews

Each Sunday, Pitchfork takes an in-depth look at a significant album from the past, and any record not in our archives is eligible. Today, we revisit the debut album from Mase, an icon of the shiny suit era who turned the Bad Boy throne into a recliner.
Mase floats skyward wearing golden goggles and a shiny suit that looks like a tricked-out air traffic control vest. His rise through an ultramodern wind tunnel feels remarkably symbolic as Kelly Price lip-syncs Diana Ross’ “I’m Coming Out” on a monitor behind him. He’s wearing the same diamond-studded Jesus piece the Notorious B.I.G. had on when he was murdered. As he swaggers through the futuristic Hype Williams-directed music video for 1997’s “Mo Money, Mo Problems,” histories are being rewritten in real-time; the nature of rap as an epic retail commodity is growing. It is a eulogy and a coronation all at once. It is Bad Boy rising from the ashes.
