Four Tet - Live at Alexandra Palace London, 8th and 9th May 2019 Music Album Reviews

Kieran Hebden’s new live album reminds us that he is a stellar performer, not just a producer.
The British producer Kieran Hebden has one of the most distinctive signatures in electronic music. First, a gravelly drum machine; then, some jewel-toned synth pads; and, finally, a strip of harp or chimes or wordless cooing, unspooling like wrinkled ribbon.

Prep Time - 10 mins
Cook Time - 15 mins
Total Time - 25 mins
Course: Side Dish
Cuisine: Chinese, Hawaiian
Keyword: fried rice, hawaiian, pineapple, Rice
Servings: 6 servings
Author: Jennifer

  • 5 Tbsp sesame oil divided
  • 1 cup chopped ham
  • 2 red bell peppers stemmed, seeded and cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 6 scallions white parts minced, green parts cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 small onion sliced thin
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 4 cups cooked white rice cold
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp srirache sauce
  • 1 can (22 oz) pineapple tidbits drained

  1. In large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons sesame oil over medium-high heat. Add ham, bell pepper, scallion whites and onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, until ham is browned and vegetables are softened, about 8-10 minutes.
  2. Stir in garlic and ginger and cook another 30 seconds.
  3. Add white rice and cook, stirring only occasionally, until rice is warmed through.
  4. Move rice to once side of the skillet and add 1 tablespoon of sesame oil to the other side. Heat oil then add eggs. Scramble eggs and cook until set, about 1 minute.
  5. Add soy sauce, srirache sauce, and the remaining 2 tablespoons sesame oil. Stir constantly for 1 minute until rice is well-coated.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in pineapple and scallion greens.

Key to Success #1 – Sesame Oil is the key. No substitutions.
The key to a good fried rice is the sesame oil. It adds so much flavor to your rice and you’ll definitely notice the difference if you leave it out.

You could use a combination of sesame oil and another mildly flavored oil, such as canola oil or olive oil, if you’d prefer.

If using a combination of oils, I’d suggest adding the sesame oil at the end of the recipe when you add the soy sauce and srirache.

Key to Success #2 – Use Cold White Rice.
This Hawaiian Fried Rice is a great recipe to make with leftover rice. If you don’t have leftover rice, you’ll want to cook the rice in advance then refrigerate it until you’re ready to make your Fried Rice.

Using cold rice will help ensure that your Hawaiian Fried Rice doesnt turn out mushy. The colder the better. If you can make your white rice a day or two in advance, that would be idea.

If you need to use fresh rice, your dish is not doomed. Just take extra care when stirring the rice to make sure you are not mashing the grains.
Key to Success #3 – Add Pineapples and Scallion Greens Off Heat.
The last thing you’ll add to your Hawaiian Fried Rice is the pineapples and the green part of the scallions. You don’t want the heat to cause the pineapples to get soggy or the scallions to wilt.

Speaking of the pineapples, you can use pineapple tidbits or pineapple chunks from a can or you can use fresh pineapple chunks in this recipe. I prefer the pineapple tidbits because I can get a little pineapple in every bite.

This Hawaiian Fried Rice is fantastic on its own or you can serve it with Hawaiian Chicken or Huli Huli Chicken.

Once Upon a Hollywood Movie Review

Say Goodbye to "Hollywood"

Moments of Quentin Tarantino's new movie "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" suggest a calmer and more reflective side of the filmmaker. Tarantino is known for his unrelenting violence and rapid-fire dialogue exchanges, but early scenes in his latest movie show him taking a bit of a breath. It's a nice touch, but Tarantino cannot help giving into his worst indulgences as a director; the movie ultimately succumbs to those, and it erases all hints of goodwill that may have been built up earlier in the film.

Spinach, Asian Pear & Chicken Salad

Fragrant, crunchy Asian pears add a refreshing melon-like flavor to the healthy chicken salad recipe. Look for the large, brown, apple-shaped fruit in well-stocked supermarkets near other specialty fruit.

Should you upgrade to 5G? We compare the 4G and 5G variants of Mi Mix 3 running on Vodafone’s network to see whether it’s worth taking the plunge.
Should I Buy The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3?
The Mi Mix 3 5G is faster and has a higher-capacity battery than the standard Mi Mix 3, yet weighs only 8g more. And while Vodafone’s 5G network is patchy right now, by the time you’re even halfway through your 24-month contract we should be in a completely different situation in terms of coverage. But are you prepared to pay double dollar for the priviledge of future-proofed connectivity and slightly better performance on an already fast phone?

Should I Buy The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Or Samsung Galaxy Tab S4?
It’s hard to say without going hands-on with the tablet ourselves, but based on the specs, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 offers a range of upgrades over the Galaxy Tab S4, but if you’re a casual tablet user that doesn’t need blistering speeds or a huge amount of storage, the Tab S4 is still a great option.
