Nokia 9.1 Release Date, Price & Specification Rumours

Nokia 9.1 Pureview is expected to feature the same penta-lens camera as the current Nokia 9
We examine the rumours surrounding Nokia's next flagship and successor to the Nokia 9. Here's what we know about the Nokia 9.1 release date, price and specifications.

Something that has always bothered us about Nokia's flagships is that they use previous-gen processors. The Nokia 9, which landed at MWC in February, runs last year's Snapdragon 845, for example. But this could all be about to change, because if there really is a 5G Nokia 9 in the works as is tipped then it's going to have to use the 2019 Snapdragon 855.

Faster performance from the Snapdragon 855 chip, combined with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, could help Nokia become relevant against some incredible competition in the flagship smartphone market - its crazy penta-lens camera (with software niggles) and in-display fingerprint sensor alone have not so far been enough to cut it. We'll likely see this same camera in the Nokia 9.1, though with improved software.

An anonymous source told NokiaPowerUser: "We can expect even better camera performance with a special focus on video and low-light performance. Camera speed has also been improved with a combination of better processor and software algorithm improvements with the help of Light. But the development team still is working on optimizations."

One design change that could also make the grade is the inclusion of a Samsung-style punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera, maximising the available screen area and allowing for much slimmer bezels and a sleeker overall design. We'll also see an update to Android 10 Q, given that this will be an Android One phone.

Although Nokia has not officially confirmed its successor, the Nokia 9.1 Pureview, whispers on the web suggest it will be here in Q4, some time around October. If it does indeed support 5G you can expect a price hike over the £550 (although currently retailing for around £450) Nokia 9 Pureview, though our guess is that 5G will be available as an option rather than standard.
